Nirvana Indian Restaurant on Magazine St.

As you may well know,
The Chook Man and I love to search
out new Indian restaurants.

Here's another one to add to the list.
Verra Nice.

Located in Uptown Magazine St.
it's in a neighborhood that
is Bohemian and right up our alley.
Full of local shops and restaurants,
we could get used to
living here so easily, it's shameful!
The foOd,
The Ambiance,
The PeePs who work there,
alllll good!
We'll be going back.

Classic Pot Luck Fare ~ Spinach Dip

yes, yes...those are the infamous Corner Cheesecake Brownies~

 Pot Lucks.
gotta LoVe em.
Variety,
Abundance,
Party.

Knorr's Spinach Dip is a classic dish for such parties.
Especially in the 90s, there was hardly a gathering without a bowl of it.
It's been awhile since I've made it and I thought it would be perfect for
Eleanor's Birthday Pot Luck.

It's so easy and only needs a few ingredients:
Mayo
Sour Cream
Spinach
Knorr's Vegetable Dip packet
5 minutes....

Add your Fav~O~Rite Crackers
{SOCIABLES!! another childhood classic}
and even The Beav's Mom will approve!

Turkish saugsage and eggs

Pronounced "soo~juk"

If I totally want to score points with The Chook Man,
I will cook this for Hims.

Turkish sausage is this heavenly combination of taste.
Not to sausage~y, or hot doggy,  it has a tang to it.
The way my Mother always made it was to slice it,
cook slightly on both sides,
and then add the eggs.
I turn the heat down a bit, to a high!med
to give the eggs time to cook without burning.

The two foods balance each other out wonderfully.
It's definitely a nice change up from Bacon.

I always drink mine with Hot Tea and
prefer to eat this for breakfast.
The Chook Man will eat it anytime of the day,
mostly lunch or dinner with a good Beer.
It's a simple hearty meal.

Priscilla's Earthly Delights

um yum. todays treat is just Divine!

Syrup & Honey ~ Duffy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnDC6Mt5ulQ

Local homegrown Honey with the Comb.
Like I've said before,
it really is the simple things
that can have such an impact on our day.

Priscilla says:
"though honey is sweet, don't lick it off a briar!"

At our humble abode,
The Womb Weebles mix it with peanut butter,
My favorite way is to drizzle it
across fresh toasted bread,
and accessorize with Earl Grey tea,

Earl Grey and Honey....sounds like a heavy romance.
No need for a paperback.

Plus:
*eating local Honey is supposed to help with your immune system/allergies

*it's always good to help the local economy

*it's GREAT for moisturizing your lips,
thereby making You someones candy girl;
{if you can keep it on there long enough.]

Honey.
It's what to Love.

Ruggles ~ so nice, went thereTwice!

I have a LoVe~LoVe relationship with
Coffee shoppes and Bakeries.
It all started in downtown Istanbul
with miniature eclairs in a white box....
I also met The Chook Man in a Coffee Shoppe.

We found Ruggles during a GooGLe search.
In the 4 days we were in Houston,
we went there 3 times.

The Pastry counter was loaded with pastries
in sizes big enough to share at least
between two people.
I had the creme brulee and
The Hubs had the White Chocolate Bread Pudding.
Both were delicious but the bread pudding
was better.

Twice I was given a complimentary
chocolate covered spoon
and a ginger snap cookie.
Those were great for breakfast.

We decided to have dinner there one night.

I just had a regular turkey sandwich with the sides
and The Hubs had the burger and fries.
He also got a bowl of the Black Bean soup
and I'd have to say
that was the best part of the whole meal.

I did like the Lime in the ice tea instead of Lemon.
I've never had it like that!

and of course, we would finish up with more coffee.....

nomnomnom....good eats.

The Breakfast Klub

Before we even left for Houston,
We knew that We were going to be
headed to
The Breakfast Klub.

for the Catfish and Grits!!!

This has got to be one of Houston's best breakfast places.
A whole lot of food for a whole little price.
The Chook Man ordered the Catfish and Grits,
DELICIOUS!
I ordered the Eggs/Bacon/Grits Breakfast plate.
DELICIOUS!

Everybody was friendly,
Service was quick,
Many choices of coffee to choose,
The decor was very homey,

We sat in front of the big window,
and got stuffed.

pICNIC pACKINS for the bEACH

Left~ overs can be great for the Beach! Beat...
Especially if you don't have the convenience of
staying ON the Beach.

We used the left over Roast Beef and French Bread
to make some nice, thick sandwiches.

Slice the bread in good 1" slices,
buttered a bit {not much, remember, you're on the beach},
just a little for flavor and so the sandwich won't be so dry.

Cut the Roast Beef in 1/2" slices.
I would have sliced them thicker
if I had more Roast.
Then just wrap them nice and snug in wax paper.

Using the rest of the Chocolate Walnut Breakfast Cake,
I cut thick wedges and wrapped them also
snug in wax paper.

I prefer the wax paper because it is just as waterproof,
at least as much as saran wrap,
but without the inconvenience of it sticking everywhere!

The Roast Beef sandwiches were pretty filling
without all the sides added to it.

The Cake was just sweet enough to satisfy the sugar fix.
Along with drinks, couple of pieces of fruit,
you're set.

It's cheaper,
It's right there, you don't have to leave,
and The Womb Fruits LOVE! picnics.

Happy Campers make a Happy Holiday!

The Big Dinner

We always try to have one The Big Dinner
when we do road tripps.
Sometimes, it's a Restaurant, Sometimes, it's cOOking.
Since we had a full kitchen I was in the mood to cook it.
A full on Roast Beef Dinner
I love to cook roast, its just that I hardly do.

I like Sirloin Tip roast best,
but any beef roast will do.
As with most all of the meat I cook,
I use very simple Spices.

For the Roast, I use:
Salt
PePPer
Garlic ~ fresh or powdered
Onion ~ diced or little strips
Water ~ about 1 cup

Tin Foil
Roasting pan or dish
*****
Puncture the Roast all over, place some cloves of Garlic in a few. Throw the Onions and rest of the Garlic into the pan,
add the water, cover with Tin Foil.

I cook my Roast on a low temperature,
around *250/300 degrees
for approximately 45 mins to an hour.
Adjust yours to the size of your roast
and the temperature of your oven.
Take the Tin Foil off
and turn temperature up to around *350,
finish cooking for another 30 ~ 40 minutes,
basting a couple of times.
Test the Roast.
I cut the center to see, and go from there.
We like med!rare at our humble abode.

The Sides
*****
Yams ~ I just opened the can, put in pot, added a touch of salt,
a sprinkle of sugar and cooked on a low heat til heated through.

Peas ~ a couple of pieces of butter;
cook til heated through.

Rice ~ long grain.
Cooked for about 20 mins and then allowed
to "steam" with towel placed on top
MAKE SURE BURNER IS OFF!!!!!

And of course, I~have~conquered~the~gravy Gravy.
This time I decided to try a canned store bought Beef broth
which worked technically, but wasn't anywhere NEAR the prize
you get when you use
the Broth & Drippings from the actual meat.
It was still delicious; just had to flavor it up more.

Who is that guy?

Add drinks,
Bread,
Cherry Clafouti for Dessert
and you truly have The Big Dinner!

The only sound was the clinking and tinkling
of Silverware against China.

Is there a better compliment?
