I love Arts & Crafts books...

Even better,

a WHOLE set!

and that's what I got.

My library used to have this set,

but no longer.

After going to check out one of the Series,
and discovering this unfortunate truth,
I googled, etsy~ied, ebayed,

and found a set that wasn't to terribly expensive.

I'm really looking forward to a lot of these projects,
especially the Knitting and Crocheting

Lucy Stone Mysteries by Leslie Meier

Whether it's the lazy days of Summer,
or the crawling into Fall
{and hopefully some cooler weather soon}
the Lucy Stone series is a nice way to spend the day.

One thing I really! like about this series
is that the timeline proceeds on a real time basis.

I hate when a writer spends twenty years
writing a book and only 5 have passed.

The Stone series
is a low key,
typical small town series,
with your typical small town characters,
as far as Murder Mysteries go.

Lots of soft humor, and real time mentions

of things happening at the time the story was written,

help carry the series. I found my Self thinking back to

what I was doing in my Life at that time.

Adds a dose of Reality.

Check out this series if you need a little down time

just to veg and tune out for a bit.

Even though my kids play outside ALOT,

Stephanie Plum Series

An action packed,
hilariously good series.

Stephanie Plum by Evanovich.

I was hoOked from the first boOk.

Evanovich does a grand job of portraying the characters.

They are so believable, you'll think She's writing about your own family~

You really get a feel for their personalities.

There is much laughter hidden in these pages.

I read the whole series and was thrilled to find  out, 

THEY ARE MAKING A MOVIE!

Then I crashed and burned when I found out 

WHO THEY CAST!

yep, sad to say....they went will all the wrong people.

Katherine Heigl ~ Stephanie Plum...........NOT.

Daniel Sunjata ~ Ranger...........NOT NOT, but HELL NOT!

Jason OMara ~ He might be just unfamous enough to pull it off, but he doesn't fit my idea of Morelli.

I truly feel this movie adaption would be way better off with unknowns, 

or somewhat unknowns to play the parts. 

Sunjata is too arrogant for the coolness of Ranger. 

I just can't picture Sunjata running around saying "Babe."   

Ewww.

I like Heigl, I do. Just not for this.  

Nope, uh uh. 

I hate when actresses have to "act" bad ass.

It's like watching a film where the soundtrack is off....

In boOkLand, many fans are voicing their opinion
that it's time Ms. Plum make a choice between
Morelli and Ranger.
That's the biggest downside of this storyline;
enough already, Pick One.

Get thee to the nearest Library, boOstore, or Amazon,

and score you the whole series.

With Spring Break, and Summer just a breath away,

this is my recommended great read.

Elvis and The Memphis Mambo Murders by Peggy Webb

I discovered Peggy Webb last year during the Holidays.

Instant Fan.
and didn't even have to add water....go figure.

This is her newest addition to the Southern Cousins Mysteries

and it has kept up the good read following the first two.

While the Cousins, Callie and Lovie are hot stepping it

The Cat Who Ate Modern Danish ~ a good read

I LoVe Mysteries.

a "speaking" Cat,

loads of Mid Century Modern,

and.....wait for it......written in 1967!!!

that's right, peeps, only the best year evah!

This is the second book in the acclaimed Cat series.

Thank goodness because I only have one, to catch up.

There's Qwilleran, an ex cop now journalist newsman, with his twitching walrus mustache, that

gives Him a heads up on His Instinct and Intuition.

KoKo, the Siamese cat who is quite the astonishing detective Himself.

Plays dictionary games with Qwill, and

let's Qwill know if He's on the right track.

and lots of Mid Century Modern,

enough to make you drool on the newsprint pages of that borrowed

library book.....{shhh, the blow dryer took care of that}

I had a lot of fun reading this and going "oooh yeah, I know what that is....

so and so bligged about it"

I know traditionally during Holidays,

many people are too busy to read.

This book would be perfect for that long road trip 

{after the kids have been dosed with nyquil, um, I mean taking a nap..}

or 

when the Turkey is taking it's holiday sauna

or 

Aunt Hortence, who really does have a walrus mustache,

wants you to trim it for Her.

Hey! you know its happened!

The best thing to make the best of Holidays is to remember

that stress reduction is a must to make the day Delicious AND Delightful.
 Books are the perfect thing.

October's readings

I'm excited to finally get my new reading treats.

Two were new and unknown to me, 

two I've been waiting all year for their release.

Matching my bOoks to my Holidays is a favorite quirk of mine.

 Anytime of the year, 

I can make an afternoon of it or a day of it..

especially if I can get a bowl of Curry involved.

I digress.

 

The Carolyn Hart and Peggy Webb book's 

are the two I waited all year, or more, for..

A Mischievous Ghost~Detective AND Elvis..that's a righteous day!

 

Hopeful about the new ones; 

I read so much that

it's hard to find 

an interesting series.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Now that the weather is finally getting a bit cooler,
and the days a tad shorter,
a book is the perfect way to end the day with the smaller dna units.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret is a wonderful boOk.

It's based on Real People.
and the magic of moving pictures.
loss and rebirth.

do not let the size of this book turn you away.

This book is filled with exquisite drawings and pictures.

My Kids would ask if we were going to read this, almost every night.
The Blu man re~read it after We read it.
He was drawn to all the mechanics of the book: the clock, the Automaton, the wind up mouse..
The Lolly really liked looking at all the sketch drawings.
I wanted to see what the Automaton would draw...

Highly recommended Family read.

Priscilla's Earthly Delights

Back back a LONG time ago, on one of my many forays into the Library, 

I discovered this bOOk and it was LoVe at first sight.

Oh the Houses I could dress with this bOOk.

A few years ago I loaned it to The Oldest Kid with the stern warning:

DO NOT LOAN THIS TO ANY!!!ONE!!!

So what did he do?

Loaned it to someone.

Where did it go?

Have no clue, because she "lost" it....

sigh.

No worries.

Thanks to the Age of Tech, 

I replaced it with no more than a click of mouse, once or twice.

There's really not much in here that I don't want to do.

These 3 things though, were what kept me

My Complete Adoration for desks made with saw~horse frames

and a top came from this verra boOk.

The first one I ever made was from 

two wooden horses

a hollow door

and some grOoviLicious fab fabric my Turkish Aunt gave me.

I stapled the fabric to the door,

ran the wires through the empty door~knob space,

set up in the empty wash pantry

and had my first Adult Studio.

The Oldest Son turned my ear to a place here in our town, 

that has the juju~bees on glass...

beveled. 

and it won't cost me a years worth of GLiTTeR to get it.

Therefore, I am thinking that in the process of streamlining 

the glass and wooden desk above would be perfect in our office.

The Oldest Son thinks this is the ultimate in Priscilla Beds.

Priscilla thinks this is a hooker bed.

I said "hooker, please"

Even though I've never actually made any of the furniture in here yet,

The instructions and assemblies of the pieces are pretty simple

and straightforward, which is what makes them Reality Do~able.

Endangered Words..........a bOok

 If you're like me, you tend to use the same word over and over. Especially on blogs, comments, etc.

I LoVe the word Love, and Love to use it a LOT.

This seems like a handy boOk to have around.
You could have fun with words,
AND keep Your brain running smooth like buttah.
An idle mind is nothing more than plain, boring, oatmeal when You're really craving Turkish Delight.

I have placed this boOk in The boOkstore List for future obtainment. 


Seriously, how can You not have fun with words from A ~ Z like these:

Afterwit ~ the lack of forethought; a good comeback one thinks of after leaving a social gathering.

Zemblanity ~ the opposite of serendipity, "making unhappy, unlucky and expected discoveries occurring by design" .

Continuing with the Vintage Pattern CoLLection,

I've added these.

 

The first pattern I've had on the fave list a few months now. 

I'm particularly excited about the dress.

I already have the fabric for it, some beautiful crepe fabric The Turkish Mother bought in, 

wait for it.....Turkey! about 15~20 years ago. Its actually very close to the print of the picture.

Lucked Up on the second pattern.

 Just plain fell in LoVe with the third.

I need to find a pretty pink gingham, perhaps....

and it will fit in with the summer set I bought a few weeks ago for our beach trip!

I love to bake cakes and pies.

If you love to bake cakes and pies, 

One should have something sturdy and easy to transport them 

or keep them fresh.  

I went on this cake plate, stand, carrier moment

and wound up with this cutie. 

Very retro, it fits with my house {circa 1953}. 

will definitely be worth its weight in gold 

just to keep the meringue on the lemon pies from sticking to EVERYthing!

Tin Tin

 

While living in Turkey in the late 70s, my brother contracted Hepatitis C. We were 6 to 8 hours from Ankara and Istanbul and it got scary. We ended up in Ankara for what seemed like FOREVER, and with no Time Machine or Time Warp to help shotgun Us through, 

it was a stressful time.

It was also a crazy exhilarating experience for Me.

It shaped My Dreams more than I could have ever realized. 

It was chicken sandwiches with an ice cold bottle of coke. 

It was Turkish pizza at the pizza hut. 

It was going to the bakery for fresh pastries, most especially mini eclairs. 

It was.....the bookstore.  

I still remember the day. Daddy and I went to the bookstore to load up. I ended up getting the whole collection of Dennis the Menace. My Dad picked out the whole collection, or what they had {he ended up missing two or three}of Tin Tin.  Of course, I'm an avid reader, so after finishing my books, I started on his. I was captivated by all the adventures Tin Tin always found him self in. Being an artist, the pictures came alive for Me. When I found out that they were making a movie, I was a bit, apprehensive, I'm picky about my movies. Then found out Spielberg was doing it. ok, this could work. Now we're Schmokin. 

It was a time of freedom for an 9 year old to be in a big city, a big foreign city at that, and by her self go to these places and take on the world. I could totally associate with tin tin, because, to me, he was my age. I read those books over and over. Over the years, they've become worn and torn, but still readable. Some how I ended up with the set, and just recently last year, gave them back to my brother........with a severe warning of severe punishment if he and the naughty nephews didn't take care of them. Be Afraid, be very afraid.....

Tin Tin helped take me away from the very scary thought of losing my brother. The stories, the art work, the characters, all right up My  Imagination Station's excellent room.

He was on international travels as we were.

Now Tin Tin is coming to the big screen again with Spielberg at the helm.

yes I am excited about the movie, and all those warm fuzzy feelings.

I shall celebrate by having chicken sandwiches, iced cold coke in a bottle, and a box of mini eclairs from the bakery.

The Blu Man is coming up on his 9th birthday.

Along with the gazillion Lego sets he'll be getting

A nice new fresh copy of TinTin in the Land of the Soviets.

A series written by Alice Kimberly

{she also writes The Coffeehouse Mysteries under Cleo Coyle}

Nice cozy reads to simply tune out to! 

the main character Penelope, who comes back to be partner with Her Aunt at the boOkstore,

as She struggles with Her independence and being a single parent. 

the main character Jack, the Apparition American  Hero

{aka: Ghost, after He was murdered in said boOkstore},

who encourages Penelope to not be a patsy.

Can you have two main characters?....

Set in a Bookstore WITH an Apartment upstairs! How cooL is that?

An instant connection between the two main characters. 
An other appealing fact is the vintage flair, complete with vintage language.


Toss in Some savory pEEps, Some time travel, Some supernatural LoVe, Some nasty in~laws,  Some gOOd natured town folk and humor, I find my Self cheering Penelope on to show them what for! HMPH!


I have read the First 3 and will be getting the next two soon.


A perfect little read for lazy days, road trips, beach.....
